"Kitchen In Kibera" found much success! Find out what we're doing now!
It takes a Village... And that village is us.
Entertainment mogul and philanthropist, Cedric Singleton, recently returned from Africa with his non-profit organization, Village One, after his team raised $5,600 to build a 10' x 20' one-story kitchen in Kibera, Africa to feed upwards of 150 orphans one meal per day.
Cedric was joined by musicians and OccupyLove members Hayón and FosRock, as well as nutritionist Christina Aspiré Perricone. Within ten days the team exceeded their goal to build a kitchen by constructing a 16' x 40' building that included a cafeteria, classroom, dormitory, and small storage space in addition to the initial kitchen. The feat was commemorated with a block party featuring performances by Hayón, FosRock and village children.
Previously, Singleton was perhaps best known for his work with Brotha Lynch Hung and X-Raided as the CEO of Black Market Films and Black Market Records. Today, Village One stands to be his global legacy and greatest challenge to date.
Kibera is the second largest slum in Africa. "Kitchen is Kibera" is the first project for Village One.
